Melissa Lowenstein is a writer and editor, parent of two, step-parent of three, parent educator, and group facilitator. Since 2011, she has worked as a facilitator, administrative team member, and grant writer for AHA! (Attitude. Harmony. Achievement.), a community profit organization that brings social-emotional learning, psycho-education, and creativity, character and conscience building in-school and after-school programs to 2500 youth per year.
Melissa has worked as a freelance writer, editor, and ghostwriter since 1997, and has contributed to, ghostwritten, and co-authored over 25 books on topics including health, parenting, education, and spirituality. She has authored and co-authored blog posts and articles that have been published and shared widely on the Web. Her interests in her own writing life include the intersections of parenting, social-emotional learning, psychology (in particular, somatic and developmental psychology and early attachment), creativity and the arts, social conscience, and spirituality.
Since 2008, she has been a certified trainer in the Nurtured Heart Approach, a highly effective parenting modality that helps difficult children live out greatness and that supports all children in doing the same ⎯ and that has unexpectedly positive impact on the adults who learn and use it. She has trained educators, therapists, and parents in the Approach and has co-written several books with its creator, therapist Howard Glasser.
Melissa has been a student of yoga for 25 years and a yoga teacher for 10; she has also studied, taught, and performed as a contemporary dancer.
